Artist Kathleen Crocetti is creating multiple large-scale multi-year mosaic mural projects with volunteer help while telling stories of local cultural heritage.
“Community Arts & Empowerment is a combination of creative place making, public art, and social practice. Through community engagement we help identify the values of a neighborhood and the visual aesthetics of its members. We seek out local artists to assist in the design of local community-based public artwork and facilitate community builds for the fabrication of permanent public art. Our process empowers communities by encouraging its members to spend time with each other defining their social and physical identities. Returning individuals teach and learn new skills together for the benefit of the all; transforming a physical space into a magical place.” From the website.
“I have been involved with many media projects during my 50+ years of community building. I met Andrew via MAH and I have had him video Kathleen Crocetti’s Watsonville Brilliante Project, that will make Watsonville the Barcelona of America; Sandy Lydon’s talk about Chinese sailing across the Pacific in junks at the Chautaqua in Pacific Grove; Donna Mekis, Kathy Mekis Miller and Sandy Lydon speaking at the MAH about their iconic book; “Blossoms Into Gold: The Croatians of the Pajaro Valley.” All of these projects involved complex shoots and coordinating with various individuals and groups. I am very very happy with Andrew’s professional and personal skills and plan to work with him, hire him for a long time.” George Ow, Jr. Senior Trustee, Ow Family Properties President, Community Arts and Empowerment
Amotion originally captured an Unveiling Ceremony for Watsonville Brillante in 2022, and has since continued to document the progress of the mural through photos and videos including a new Santa Cruz mural called “Dancing Waters”.
